CHICAGO — Caleb Williams' return to full practice has not yet become a confirmed return to the starting lineup. The Bears listed their quarterback as questionable Friday for Sunday's October 18 game against the Falcons in Atlanta, keeping the decision open after three missed games.
Williams has been recovering from a right hamstring injury sustained against Minnesota on September 20. He participated fully Friday, according to Chicago's injury update. That progress is encouraging for the Bears, but the team's final designation still leaves his availability unresolved.
Chicago also has not announced which reserve would start if Williams cannot play. Coach Ben Johnson declined Friday to choose publicly between Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum. Either name should therefore be treated as a contingency rather than an announced starter.
The injury report extends beyond quarterback. Running back Kyle Monangai, defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo and linebackers T.J. Edwards and Keyshaun Elliott were ruled out. Monangai is dealing with thumb and toe injuries; Odeyingbo and Elliott have quadriceps injuries, while Edwards has a hamstring injury. Defensive end Montez Sweat is serving an NFL suspension.
Cornerbacks Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson also received questionable designations. Gordon has been working back from a calf injury, and Stevenson has a hip injury. Those uncertainties leave Chicago with availability decisions on both sides of the ball as it prepares for Atlanta.
For Williams, the distinction remains clear: completing practice and being cleared to play are separate steps. The Bears' Friday report supports an update on his progress, not an announcement that he will start Sunday. Until the club changes that designation or confirms its lineup, Chicago's quarterback plan remains unsettled.
