CHICAGO — Loyola Chicago finished its men’s basketball exhibition schedule Monday with a 110–49 victory over Calumet College at Gentile Arena, using a wide distribution of scoring and a substantial interior advantage to separate early. The result completes a preseason assignment; it does not count as a regular-season win for the Ramblers.
Guillaume Grotzinger led Loyola with 17 points on six-for-seven shooting and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ryan Agarwal scored 16 and made four three-pointers. Xavier Amos and Nic Anderson each finished with 13 points, while Chris Jeffrey added 11 and Elias Rapieque scored 10. Six double-figure scorers gave the Ramblers production across several lineup combinations rather than a single dominant scoring option.
Jeffrey’s contribution went well beyond his point total. He collected a game-high 10 rebounds and distributed eight assists, finishing with a double-double. Anderson and Jeffrey each recorded three steals. Loyola forced 25 turnovers and turned them into 35 points, repeatedly converting defensive possessions into opportunities before Calumet could establish its half-court defense.
The Ramblers led 54–30 at halftime and extended the margin by winning the second half 56–19. Their largest statistical advantages were close to the basket: 60–12 in points in the paint and 22–0 in second-chance points. Loyola also won the rebounding comparison 58–32 and held a 30–9 advantage in fast-break scoring.
Those numbers identify what worked Monday without requiring an exhibition to predict the regular season. Loyola created extra chances, finished inside and distributed scoring. The size of the margin also means the next test will need to establish how those same habits function in a more competitive game, when a missed defensive assignment or empty possession carries a larger immediate cost.
The regular season begins Monday, November 2, against The Citadel at Gentile Arena, with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Chicago time. That game will start Loyola’s actual season record. Monday’s exhibition instead leaves the Ramblers with a final set of preseason minutes and a clear statistical account of the interior and transition play that produced the win.
Loyola Chicago middle blocker Avary DeBlieck received the Atlantic 10’s Defensive Player of the Week award Monday after recording 17 blocks across a pair of five-set matches at Dayton. Her strongest individual line came in Saturday’s victory, when she finished with 10 blocks and 10 kills while hitting .588.
