BROOKLYN — Eleven days can change a lot in basketball.
On August 18, the Chicago Sky scored 93 points and defeated the New York Liberty.
Saturday's rematch looked nothing like that performance.
New York held Chicago to 66 points and secured an 85–66 victory, extending the Sky's losing streak to three games.
Natasha Cloud led Chicago with 14 points, while Han Xu contributed 19 for the Liberty.
The most concerning number wasn't New York's 85.
It was Chicago's 66.
The Sky scored 27 fewer points than they did in their previous meeting with the same opponent.
Chicago also produced its lowest scoring total in its six most recent games.
That kind of fluctuation makes it difficult to build a reliable winning formula.
In one meeting, Chicago was capable of scoring more than 90 against New York. In the next, the Sky couldn't reach 70.
The defeat dropped Chicago to 15–25.
The Sky's recent three-game winning streak now feels increasingly distant.
Chicago has shown enough flashes of offensive production to make its struggles frustrating. The question isn't whether the roster can produce strong performances.
It's whether those performances can become consistent.
Saturday's result offered little evidence that Chicago has found the answer.
